25 January is Tatiana Day in Russia, the name day for the name Tatiana.

Obviously we would like to remember Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna of Russia today.

Tatiana (1897–1918) was the second daughter of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna.

Her father wanted to name his daughters Olga and Tatiana after the two sisters in the famous novel in verse Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin.

Many viewed her as the most beautiful of the four grand duchesses, as the one who most resembled their mother, with whom she was the closest out of all the children. But their papà loved her dearly too and was thought to concede to her requests faster, what the other children sometimes used when they needed their dad's consent.

She was thoughtful, caring, modest and even-tempered. Remarkably homeschooled like her sisters, Tatiana could play the piano, dance and paint. But knitting was her special talent, most probably after her mother. She liked to sew clothes and embroider small gifts for her family members. More than anyone else, Tatiana spared absolutely no time and effort in caring of her mother.

Empress Alexandra's friend Julia Den described the tsarevna in her memoirs as "Very tall, slender as a reed, she was endowed with a graceful cameo profile and brown hair. She was fresh, fragile and pure as a rose".

Tatiana was 21 when her whole family were executed in the early hours of 17 July 1918. She was shot in the back of her head.
