29 December 2021 marks 312 years since the birth of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, which is celebrated at Tsarskoe Selo with a small exhibition of carved amber works of her time from the Museum's reserve collection. Some of them were possibly touched by Elizabeth's hands.

The exhibition in the Amber Room of the Catherine Palace will run till 28 February 2022.

It was under Elizabeth, Peter the Great's daughter, that the Catherine Palace and its Amber Room were designed and built by the architect Francesco Rastrelli.

The amber collection of Tsarskoe Selo is one of the largest in Europe and the largest in Russia. It holds nearly 400 works, mostly diplomatic gifts to Russian emperors.
