Another Olympus conquered

23.09.2019

The Four Museums Centenary Project of 2018 has brought the top awards of St Petersburg’s museum community to Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof, Pavlovsk and Gatchina.

The four museums’ directors received the Mnemosyne trophies in the Museum Unformatted category at the 2019 Museum Olympus awards ceremony at Peterhof on September 20.

In 2018 Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof, Pavlovsk and Gatchina joined forces to celebrate their 100th anniversary as state museums. Their celebration project included a series of lectures at the Alexandrinsky Theatre New Stage, a joint exhibition in Palermo (Italy), academic conferences, and the breakthrough exhibition To Keep Forever at St Petersburg’s Manege.

Tsarskoe Selo was also nominated for Exposition for the Year with our Catherine Palace Chapel opened for visiting after restoration since 13 April 2019.

Our Mnemosyne count stands at eight now, resulting from the previous wins in 2010 (Museum of the Year), 2013 (Exhibition and Museum Book of the Year), 2014 (Exposition of the Year), 2015 (Prestige of Petersburg), 2016 (Exposition of the Year) and 2017 (Exhibition of the Year).

This year the Museum Olympus’ jury supported the initiative of Tsarskoe Selo to provide a special award for Best Restoration Work to the Tsarskoselskaya Amber Workshop. Their maters reconstructed the legendary Amber Room, revived the Agate Rooms and recently finished restoring the Catherine Palace’s Chapel and Lyons Hall.
